Roy Keane shows his soft side as Man United legend shares a heartwarming photo of his newest grandchild

We are used to seeing Roy Keane snarling on our screens as he delivers his latest withering assessment of a Premier League footballer.

But the former Man United hard man showed his softer side as he posted a heartmelting snap with his new grandson on Instagram. 

‘My new grandson, big baby,’ the 53-year-old captioned the photograph in his usual no-nonsense way. 

It is Keane’s third grandchild although details are unclear as to which of his and wife Theresa’s five children is the parent. 

The Irishman first became a grandfather in 2021 and often shares sweet snaps of his two eldest grandchildren on social media.

Keane’s daughter Leah is engaged to Southampton centre-back Taylor Harwood-Bellis who made headlines last November when he scored on his England debut against Republic of Ireland.

Keane, who has the names of each of his five children tattooed on his right arm, was a pundit for ITV’s coverage of the match and quipped ‘It’s (the wedding) not done and dusted yet. 

‘Things can change very quickly in the Keane household.’

The former Republic of Ireland captain was joking, of course, and added: ‘Over the last few months he’s definitely got a goal threat for Southampton, it’s nice for him.

‘It’s great for him to make his debut. He’s a nice kid, his family has done a great job.’

In February, Keane’s 29-year-old daughter Caragh bravely opened up about her tough battle with with lupus, an incurable auto-immune condition. 

Caragh, who was diagnosed with the condition in 2021, said: ‘Life was over. (There was) no way out. I wouldn’t be here without them (mum and dad). 

‘When I was diagnosed, I mourned the person I had been and the person I felt I should have been.’

Fans were quick to congratulate Keane on his grandfather announcement. His former club Man United commented: ‘Just in time for kick-off ❤️’ referring to Thursday’s Europa League quarter-final clash with Lyon.

While ex-Ireland team-mate Robbie Keane posted: ‘Congrats ❤️’.

Keane and his wife Theresa Doyle’s three other children are Shannon, Aidan and Alanna. 

The couple married in his native Mayfield in Cork back in 1997. They first met while he was playing with Nottingham Forest in 1992.
