ROBIN GOODFELLOW

The Midlands Grand National (Uttoxeter 3.0) looks viciously competitive but a chance is worth taking on SAINT DAVY (NB) at a big price. He is the choice of stable jockey Jonjo O’Neill Jnr over the more generally fancied Iron Bridge, and steps up over a mile in trip for this race. Blinkers are added for only his fourth run over fences and he looks a fascinating contender.

Later Dan Skelton’s FLEGMATIK (NAP) (Kempton 3.20) bids to go one better in this race than last year. The 10-year-old has a fantastic record at the track, races here off a 10lb lower mark than his one-and-a-quarter-length defeat last term and has his favoured better ground.

WIZARD OF ODDS

CHRIS BAKER

UTTOXETER 3.00: APPLE AWAY, a Grade One novice hurdle winner in 2023, has developed into a classy and consistent staying chaser. She is highly regarded by connections and can land this big prize.

KEMPTON 3.20: OUTLAW PETER ended last season in good form, including a victory in this race. That took his form figures at Kempton to 1P121, so he should relish today’s return to the track.

SOUTHWELL 6.45: HUMAM (NAP) is yet to finish out of the first three places in his four starts. He has won his last two, including over today’s course and distance 36 days ago.
