Robin Goodfellow’s racing tips: Best bets for Saturday, July 19

Mail Sport’s racing expert Robin Goodfellow delivers his tips for Saturday’s meetings at Market Rasen, Doncaster, Newmarket, Haydock, Cartmel, Newbury and Ripon.

It was 2019 when a three-year-old last won the Steventon Stakes (1.50 Newbury) but RASHABAR (NAP) can buck the trend when he drops down in class. He landed last season’s Coventry Stakes at Royal Ascot as an 80-1 outsider and since then he has featured in Group One contests won by Whistlejacket, Camille Pissarro and Field Of Gold. This step up in trip to 1m2f should suit him at a track where he finished second in the Greenham Stakes on his reappearance this season.

In the Summer Plate (3.12 Market Rasen), last year’s winner SURE TOUCH (NB) holds strong claims of a repeat success. A neck winner in 2024 from Soul Icon, now rated 7lb higher, Sure Touch runs here off a 1lb lower mark under Sean Bowen. Cheekpieces are on for the first time and he looks the one to beat.

THE WIZARD OF ODDS

By Chris Baker

2.00 CURRAGH: MOLTOPHINO beat a subsequent winner at this course two starts back and ran well to be placed in a big-field handicap last time. He has a good draw for this return to the Curragh.

2.57 NEWBURY: ELITE STATUS (NAP) is unbeaten in two starts over today’s course and distance, including a victory in this race last year. He is dropping down in class today.

8.15 DONCASTER: YANIFER, who has solid form in a higher class, ran well to finish second at York last time out. He can go one better today and record a second course-and-distance win.
