The River Severn Partnership Advanced Wireless Innovation Region (RSPAWIR) is proud to announce that its work and pioneering projects have been shortlisted for the 2025 Environmental Monitoring Awards, hosted by the Water, Wastewater & Environmental Management Expo (WWEM).
These nominations celebrate the RSPAWIR’s commitment to innovation, collaboration, and environmental stewardship across the River Severn catchment.
The shortlisted projects are:
- New Initiative Award (Water) – RSPAWIR Water Workstream
Recognising the collective impact of all RSPAWIR water projects, this nomination highlights the region’s integrated approach to tackling water quality, availability and flooding challenges through advanced wireless technologies and collaborative action. - Excellence in Industrial Emissions Monitoring Award – Poultry Sector Ammonia Reduction Project
This project showcases cutting-edge monitoring and mitigation strategies to reduce ammonia emissions from poultry farming, supporting cleaner air and healthier ecosystems. - Community Engagement in Water Monitoring Award – Shropshire Wild Bathing Project
A unique initiative empowering local communities to monitor bathing water quality, promoting safe, sustainable access to natural water spaces. - Best Real-Time Water Quality Monitoring Project Award – River Clun & Lugg Phosphate Monitoring Projects
These projects demonstrate the power of real-time data in managing nutrient pollution, protecting sensitive river habitats, and informing targeted interventions.

The winners will be announced at the Environmental Monitoring Awards Gala Dinner on 17 September 2025 at The Vox, Birmingham, during the ESS Expo.
Notes: The RSPAWIR,
managed by Shropshire Council, has been awarded £4m of funding from the Department of Science, Industry and Technology, to support the growth of wireless innovation and technology in some of its key economic sectors.
The Partnership comprises the eight English and Welsh councils that cover the River Severn catchment area including Shropshire Council, and is one of 10 UK Innovation Regions to gain funding.
The RSPAWIR focuses on accelerating the adoption of advanced wireless enabled technologies across three sectors which have particularly strong roots in the River Severn catchment area:-

Public sector
