Rio Ferdinand offered a one-word response to Chelsea fans who jeered Mason Mount during the Manchester United star’s Stamford Bridge return.
Mount, who grew up at Chelsea, signing for the club as a young boy before leaving in 2023 at the age of 24, received a hostile reception from Blues supporters as he lined up for his side in their last match before the Europa League final.
It was topical for the last week, with Liverpool defender Trent Alexander-Arnold receiving the same treatment after revealing he would be leaving the club for free at the end of the season.
Alexander-Arnold, who seems set to join Real Madrid at the end of the campaign, revealed he would leave after his side secured the Premier League title. It didn’t go down well with a number of Reds fans, with one seen burning a shirt with his name on.
One fan took to social media to ask Ferdinand his thoughts on the events, posting: ‘Hi @rioferdy5 & @piersmorgan, what are your thoughts on Mason Mount getting booed by Chelsea fans?
‘His own boyhood club booing him. This must be an absolute disgrace and have full media attention for the next week.’
Ferdinand replied: ‘Deluded.’
