Matthias Beutin was last seen on Thursday morning before climbing Blà Bheinn on the Isle of Skye

Police and mountain rescue teams are searching for a German walker missing on the Isle of Skye.

Matthias Beutin was last seen at Blaven car park, near Loch Slapin, at about 11:30 on Thursday before setting out to climb Blà Bheinn.

Officers said the 57-year-old had not been in contact with his family since and concerns were growing for his wellbeing.

The Skye Mountain Rescue Team carried out two full day searches on Friday and Saturday without success.

Police Scotland urged anyone who may have seen Mr Beutin to come forward.

He is described as about 5ft 9in, of average build with short, dark hair.

Mr Beutin was last seen wearing a blue waterproof jacket, brown waterproof trousers and dark brown Meindl trekking shoes.

He was carrying a small black and orange backpack.

Several search and rescue teams have been involved in the search for Mr Beutin

Sgt David Mockett said it was “out of character” for Mr Beutin not to be in contact with his loved ones.

Skye Mountain Rescue said teams faced “challenging terrain” and “poor visibility” during a search for Mr Beutin on Saturday.

The Search and Rescue Dog Association, Kintail Mountain Rescue and the Royal Air Force Mountain Rescue Service also took part in the search.

Blà Bheinn, also known as Blaven, is a popular Munro for walkers and climbers in an isolated part of Skye, on the outskirts of the Cullin Ridge.
