In her first interview since the decision to demolish Grenfell Tower was announced, Deputy Prime Minister Angela Rayner was pressed by Laura Kuenssberg on her behaviour during a recent meeting with survivors and the believed.
She told the that there was “never going to be a consensus”, on what to do about the building where 72 people lost their lives in the devastating fire of 2017.
She said she had come to a decision that the “only way forward really was to sensitively make sure that we start taking the tower to ground level, but that we have a lasting memorial on that site”.
