Ravens dealt major blow as Lamar Jackson leaves Chiefs game early with worrying hamstring injury

Lamar Jackson hobbled out of the Baltimore Ravens’ game against the Kansas City Chiefs with a hamstring injury on Sunday before his team went 1-3 for the season.

With the Ravens trailing 30-13 at Arrowhead Stadium, Jackson pulled up with the problem in the closing seconds of the third quarter and subsequently left the field in a worrying moment for head coach John Harbaugh.

After being replaced by Cooper Rush at quarterback and listed as questionable to return, the 28-year-old remained on the bench in the fourth and final quarter as Baltimore slumped to its third defeat of the campaign.

A dejected Jackson watched on from the sidelines as the Chiefs wrapped up a 37-20 victory, their second straight win after last week’s first of the season against the New York Giants.

Before exiting the game the Ravens quarterback completed 14 of his 20 passes for 147 yards, a touchdown and an interception. He also had six carries for 48 rushing yards in Kansas City.

Meanwhile, Chiefs counterpart Patrick Mahomes completed 25 of his 37 passes for 270 yards and four touchdowns, while registering four carries for five yards.

It has been a disappointing start to the campaign for the Ravens, who had already come unstuck against two Super rivals in the Detroit Lions and the Buffalo Bills. Their only win so far came against the struggling Cleveland Browns.

Now, after losing to another top contender in the recently dethroned back-to-back champion Chiefs, they find themselves 1-3 ahead of next week’s pivotal Week 5 showdown with the Houston Texans.

As well as Jackson, the Ravens also lost cornerback Marlon Humphrey to a calf injury and lineback Roquan Smith to a hamstring injury in the first half at Arrowhead, leaving them without six defensive starters due to injuries.

On the other side of the ball, left tackle Ronnie Stanley left with an ankle injury during the first quarter to make life even tougher for Harbaugh.

Prior to Sunday’s battle with Kansas City, Baltimore was also forced to put defensive lineman Nnamdi Madubuike on injured reserve with a neck problem and defensive end Broderick Washington on IR with an ankle injury on Saturday.

And 90 minutes before kickoff, defensive tackle Travis Jones was made inactive with a knee injury and linebacker Kyle Van Noy was inactive with a hamstring injury.

The Ravens were alsoi without cornerback Jaire Alexander, who has had a nagging knee injury and also was inactive.

Harbaugh acknowledged this week that he was ‘concerned’ about Madubuike’s injury, but hadn’t been given the OK to discuss it. Madubuike has made consecutive Pro Bowls while starting every game the past two seasons.
