Danny Rohl has further bolstered his Rangers squad for an assault on the title with the arrival of Belgian left-back Tuur Rommens

The 22-year-old defender insisted that it was a ‘very easy’ choice to join the Ibrox side from Westerlo on an initial three-and-a-half-year deal.

Rangers had already confirmed on Sunday that Danish midfielder Tochi Chukwuani, also 22, had completed his move from Sturm Graz, and now Rommens is the latest piece in the jigsaw.

‘I’m very happy to be here,’ said Rommens, who had previously played with Genk in his homeland. ‘It’s a dream to play for a club like this, and I only have positive feelings.

‘Everyone knows Rangers and, when a club like this is interested in you, then you want to be part of it. The most important thing is that they believe in me, and that’s why I have come here. It’s a big club with a lot of fans, and they always play in Europe. It was very easy for me to make this choice.’

It’s understood that Rommens is able to train and play immediately, but will not feature in Friday night’s Scottish Cup clash with League Two side Annan Athletic at Ibrox.

Rangers manager Danny Rohl unveils his latest signing, Belgian left-back Tuur Rommens

Given the effects of a previous knock and the good form of Jayden Meghoma, his introduction to the side will be managed as a precaution and he is expected to be fully ready in three to four weeks’ time.

Rohl said: ‘I am delighted to welcome Tuur to the club. He is a young and hungry player who adds real quality and physicality to the group and increases competition in a key area of the pitch. We believe he will be a fantastic addition to the side and an important asset in the years ahead.’

Meanwhile, Rangers are close to agreeing personal terms as they look to complete a loan deal for Wolfsburg’s Danish winger Andreas Skov Olsen.
