Antonio Conte lost his cool and was sent off during Napoli’s intense 2-2 draw with Inter Milan on Sunday evening.

Conte, 56, is aiming to lead Napoli to back-to-back Serie A titles for the first time in the club’s history and they faced Inter in a top of the table clash at the San Siro.

Inter took the lead through Federico Dimarco early on before Scott McTominay equalised midway through the first half.

In an entertaining encounter, the flashpoint then came around the 73rd minute when the hosts were awarded a penalty following a VAR review, with Amir Rrahmani adjudged to have stepped on Henrikh Mkhitaryan’s foot.

Referee Daniele Doveri had originally not got involved, but he was urged to take another look on the pitchside monitor.

And when he announced his decision to give a penalty, Conte was left furious and booted a ball from the touchline towards Inter’s goal.

Having been informed of what the former Inter boss had done, Doveri went over and sent off Conte, but this only ignited the fire.

Conte grew even more furious and confronted the fourth official, with the Italian seen shouting in his face before he was escorted away by security as he continued to yell something in the direction of the officials.

He was also said to throw a bottle to the ground, and Italian outlet Sport Mediaset reported that Conte screamed: ‘Shame on you, shame on you all.’

Hakan Calhanoglu converted the subsequent spot kick to give Inter the lead, but McTominay levelled the scores again with a superb first-time finish in the 81st minute.

Following his dismissal, Conte watched the rest of the game from the stands and he could be seen celebrating wildly when the former Man United star equalised for a second time.

The draw kept Napoli on the tail of their title rivals, with Conte’s side four points adrift of Inter in third.

AC Milan, who dropped points earlier on Sunday by drawing 1-1 with struggling Fiorentina, are one point better off in second place at the halfway point of the season.

Napoli are back in action on Wednesday when they host Parma, while Inter entertain Leece later that night.
