The quadruple amputee and professional cornhole player facing murder and felony assault charges in Maryland has been denied bond as he awaits trial over the death of a 27-year-old man.
Dayton Webber, a former pro in the American Cornhole League, appeared in Charles County District Court via video stream from a county jail on Wednesday in his first courtroom appearance since being extradited from Virginia earlier in the week.
The 27-year-old Webber is accused of shooting and killing Brad Wells on March 22 as the two drove through La Plata, Maryland with two passengers in the back seat.
Webber allegedly asked the passengers to help him dispose of the body, but police say they refused and exited the vehicle before phoning 911. Wells’ body was later found in a yard in Charlotte Hall, Maryland. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Prosecutors in the case say they found a gun in Webber’s car consistent with the murder weapon. Meanwhile, Virginia police obtained a search warrant for footage from the car’s exterior cameras, according to court records.
Webber’s attorney has claimed his client acted in self defense and had been afraid of Wells.

According to charging documents obtained by the Daily Mail, Wells’ body was found in a yard on Newport Church Road, Charlotte Hall, Maryland. He was pronounced dead at the scene
The witnesses told police that Webber and Wells were arguing over “drugs, guns and a woman” in the moments before the shooting. Webber’s ex-girlfriend Tori Mattingly recently told TMZ that she was romantically involved with Wells, adding that Webber had an ‘angry dark side.’
Furthermore, Mattingly said she ‘isn’t surprised’ by the murder allegations against Webber.
She also took aim at those sympathizing with her former partner in an emotional post on Facebook, writing: ‘Watching people say ‘this doesn’t sound like him’ or ‘he would never do that’ is honestly sickening. You didn’t live with him. I did.
‘For four years, I saw the side of him that nobody else wanted to believe existed. The anger. The control. The abuse. The kind of darkness you don’t just ‘mistake.’ The kind that makes you feel unsafe in your own home, in your own skin.
‘So no… I’m not shocked he’s being convicted of murder. Because I know what he’s capable of. I lived it. Every single day.’
Webber reportedly became a quadruple amputee as a baby due to a blood infection that ultimately led to sepsis.
‘They suggested he be baptized and given his last rites,’ Webber’s mother, Natalie, told ESPN in 2023. ‘That just didn’t enter my thoughts that I was going to lose him.’
Ultimately, his arms were amputated just above the elbow, giving him the ability to pin objects between his upper arms. It’s this trait that allowed him to become a competitive cornhole player, ultimately joining the American Cornhole League in 2023.
‘At first, it took me a little while to get it there to the board consistently,’ he told ESPN of his cornhole obsession, which began at age 8. ‘I was able to compensate the grip on the bag by just grabbing the corner of it with me propelling myself forward.
‘It’s something I’ve been doing my whole life, is overcoming things that people didn’t think I can do.’
