Have your say on government proposals to introduce a new single remote gambling duty.

Currently, remote gambling in the UK is taxed through three duties General Betting Duty, Pool Betting Duty, and Remote Gaming Duty.

Proposal for a new single remote gambling duty

The government is proposing to move all remote gambling into a new single remote gambling tax to be called Remote Betting & Gaming Duty. This will mostly affect online betting, eg, sports bets, and gaming businesses, eg, slots and casinos.

The government is consulting with a view to

  • ensure the taxation of remote gambling is appropriate to the industry
  • create a tax which reflects the commonalities of remote gambling
  • simplify the system and reduce administrative burdens

Who should respond to this consultation?

The government welcomes contributions from any individual or organisation interested in the reform of remote gambling taxation. This includes but is not limited to taxpayers, industry bodies, and public health groups.

The deadline for responses to this consultation is 2359 on Monday 21 July 2025.
