In one of the most bizarre transfer moves this month, former Premier League winner Victor Moses has moved to a relegation-threatened side in Kazakhstan.

Moses was a key part of the 2016-17 team that won the title with Antonio’s Chelsea when he was deployed as a right-wing-back.

Now 35, Moses had been a free agent since last summer but has now found a home with Kazakhstan Premier League outfit Kaysar Kyzylorda.

Moses boasts 1.2 million Instagram followers and the cult hero’s profile is significantly larger than his new club, who only have 35,000.

He is the only foreign player in the Kyzylorda squad and the contract is just a short one until December this year.

Moses was filmed being given a warm reception by fans as he was presented on the artificial turf of their stadium before doing some keepy-uppies and signing autographs. The capacity of the Kaysar stadium is 7,000 and they have never won the title.

The club are currently 11th in the table out of 14 teams after 26 matches so far this season.

In his prime, Moses was an athletic wide player who was deployed both in attack and then effectively in defence when Chelsea won the title nine years ago.

He played 34 times for the club that season, scoring three goals and putting on three assists for team-mates as he formed an integral part of the squad that included John Terry, N’Golo Kante, Cesc Fabregas and Eden Hazard.

Moses also played for Liverpool, Crystal Palace, West Ham and Stoke in the English top flight.

He joined Spartak Moscow on a permanent deal in 2021 and spent three years in the Russian capital.

He then returned to England with Luton Town last season where made 18 appearances before being released when his contract expired last May.

Moses has 38 caps for Nigeria having switched allegiance after representing England in various youth ranks and his new club side is by far the smallest of his career.

Announcing their new man on Instagram, they wrote: ‘Kaysar Football Club officially announces the signing of an experienced midfielder Victor Moses.

‘The former player of the Nigerian national team will defend the honour of the Kyzylorda club in the new season.

‘Victor Moses is a football player known for his high-level experience, having played for a number of European giants. His joining Kaysar is a clear proof of the team’s goals for the upcoming season.

‘The club management and coaching staff believe that Victor’s experience and skills will have a positive impact on the development of the team and the growth of young players.

‘We wish Victor Moses good luck in the Kaysar team!’
