- Premier League players have sent fans into hysterics on social media
- The group were tasked with pronouncing the names of key Australian towns
Multiple Premier League football stars, including Bruno Fernandes, Jamie Vardy and Rodri have got fans laughing on social media for their hilarious attempts at pronouncing the names of multiple towns situated around Australia.
But one star appears to have hit the nail on the head.
It comes as more Premier League teams have ventured Down Under in recent years with England’s top division growing drastically in popularity among Aussie football fans.
Channel 9 reporter Tom Morris reported on Wednesday that League One side Wrexham are now due to tour Australia in July. The report suggests they could play Melbourne Victory before also playing fixtures in Perth, Sydney and Auckland.
And during a video clip published on Optus Sport’s X account, it appears that some Premier League stars may have to do some brushing up on their knowledge of Aussie geography.
Wolves goalkeeper Jose Sa opens the clip and attempts to pronounce the name of the New South Wales suburb, Coogee.

Premier League football stars have been challenged to pronounce the names of several Aussie towns
‘I have to say this?’ he begins. Before sending members of the filming crew into hysterics, appearing to pronounce the suburb’s name ‘Koo-gy’.
Several other stars also appear in the clip, including Manchester United striker Rasmus Hojlund who is asked to pronounce the NSW town Mudgee.
Jamie Vardy, though appeared to get his pronunciations spot-on.
‘So they’re actually town names,’ the Leicester City star said to the camera while scratching his chin.
He was asked to pronounce Echuca and nailed the pronunciation.
Meanwhile, it seems several players appeared to struggle with the phrasing of one Aussie town. James Maddison, Jorginho and Declan Rice all took a shot at saying the name ‘Leichardt’ but they were corrected by one Australian star.
But Massimo Luongo, who plays for Ipswich, stepped up to deliver the correct spelling of the southeast Sydney suburb. ‘Leichardt,’ he said. ‘That’s my town.’
Newcastle and Tottenham landed Down Under at the end of the 2023-24 season, but it remains to be confirmed which teams might head to Australia during the off-season in 2025.

Jamie Vardy, though, was spot on with his pronunciation of the town Echuca, getting it first time

Reports from The Australian will get many Aussie football fans excited, though, with Liverpool being touted as a potential tourist Down Under later this winter.
The Premier League giants, who are 13 points clear at the top of the league table and are poised to claim their second title in five years, are expected to fly to Asia during the off-season to take on AC Milan in a series of fixtures in Hong Kong, China and Japan in July.
There is a chance that the Reds could also jet down to Melbourne as part of that trip.
The Australian adds that they could be a potential opponent for the A-League All-Stars, in a blockbuster clash at the Melbourne Cricket Ground at some point over the summer.
The outlet adds that the Australian Professional Leagues and Victorian government have been working alongside multiple European clubs about coming to Melbourne – but the date of the Champions League final, on May 31 has proved to be a sticking point.
