The stars of English football descended on Manchester’s Opera House on Tuesday night to celebrate the achievements of the game’s biggest names.

All eyes were on Mohamed Salah’s arrival at the Professional Football Association’s glitzy awards gala, as he looked to make yet more history after his stellar 2024-25 campaign.

The lavish occasion provided ample opportunity for the game’s stars and their stunning partners to strut their stuff in rather unfamiliar environments. Though, on the evidence of the glamorous attendees, many would not be out of place on paparazzi-swamped red carpets across the globe.

Former England manager Sir Gareth Southgate made an early appearance, decked out in a classic black suit. While, new Wrexham defender Conor Coady was joined by his wife Amie, who wowed in a one-shouldered black dress with a sheer skirt.

Elsewhere, Arsenal stars Gabriel, William Saliba and Declan Rice kept it simple on a night when the latter is among the nominees for the prestigious top prize.

The Englishman is one of six contenders alongside heavy favourite Salah, Liverpool’s Alexis Mac Allister, Chelsea star Cole Palmer, Manchester United skipper Bruno Fernandes and wantaway Newcastle striker Alexander Isak, who chose to avoid the occasion as speculation over his future rumbles on.

Salah is looking to become the first man to win the Players’ Player of the Year prize on three occasions. He currently shares the honour of being a multiple time winner with Mark Hughes, Alan Shearer, Thierry Henry, Gareth Bale, Cristiano Ronaldo and Kevin De Bruyne.

He arrived in a simple black suit, finished with a gold tie, a nod, perhaps, to his expectation of taking the grand prize with him back to Merseyside.

Meanwhile, Arsenal’s Alessia Russo and Mariona Caldentey are among the favourites for Women’s PFA Player of the Year after the Gunners became two-time Women’s Champions League winners.

Russo, who netted 20 goals last term before helping the Lionesses clinch the European Championship, dazzled on the Opera House’s red carpet in her strapless sage green gown.

The Gunners made a point to show a united front at the event, with their entire delegation from the men’s and women’s team stopping for a moment with the cameras.

The other nominees for the top prize in the women’s game are Manchester City team-mates Mary Fowler and Yui Hasegawa, Chelsea’s Erin Cuthbert and United star Phallon Tullis-Joyce.

More to follow.
