Premier League great Theo Walcott has revealed why he deeply admires Aussie football fans – and why his beloved Arsenal will be domestic champions this season.

Walcott, 36, is in Australia as a guest of Stan Sport, who are helping promote the Premier League Trophy Tour from March 12-20.

The coveted silverware will be on display at venues in Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane, with the former Gunners winger jumping at the opportunity to head Down Under.

‘Unfortunately I never got to lift the Premier League trophy in my career, but I was more than happy to head to Australia and connect with fans,’ he told the Daily Mail after a photo shoot at Taronga Zoo in Sydney on Thursday.

‘Given the time difference, football supporters (here) have to be really dedicated to watch their team.

‘That desire and ongoing commitment, for me…that is what football is all about.’

The veteran of 270 appearances with Arsenal over 12 years then explained why Mikel Arteta’s men will not be denied on the domestic front this campaign.

‘Given they are currently seven points clear, I just can’t see them falling over,’ he said.

‘For me, other Premier League clubs are rebuilding, but Arsenal are ready now, this squad has been built for many years.

‘I know we haven’t won (the title) for a while (2003-04 season), but the players are invested…they are ready.

‘I also wouldn’t be surprised if they go on to win the double with the Champions League.’

While on local shores, Walcott plans to climb the Sydney Harbour Bridge – and will attend the NRL clash on Friday between the Roosters and Rabbitohs at Allianz Stadium.

He admitted his knowledge of rugby league is limited, but was excited after being told the atmosphere could rival a North London derby against Tottenham.

Walcott, who cut his teeth at Southampton before securing a move to Arsenal in 2006, enjoyed a storied professional career.

He joined Everton in 2018 before finishing his career where it all started with Saints.

At international level, Walcott was named in England’s squad for the 2006 World Cup aged just 17 and finished with 47 senior caps a decade later.

Additionally, the Sky Sports pundit had a vital message for emerging footballers – set your own standards.

‘Surrounding yourself with positive people is also important,’ he said. ‘Control your mentality and leave nothing to chance.’

Football fans can watch live games across the season on Stan Sport, the exclusive home of the Premier League in Australia.
