Boston-area sports radio host Michael Felger has revealed he was airlifted from Nantucket Island back to Beantown on Sunday after ‘cracking his neck’ while riding his bike.
Fans of his afternoon program, Felger and Mazz (Tony Massarotti), were previously curious why he missed Monday’s show.
Felger returned to the air on Tuesday and explained his weekend on the island, known for being a lavish destination.
The accident occurred on Saturday evening, with Felger only getting checked out by a doctor the next day after speaking with his daughter.
‘I was in the hospital yesterday after getting airlifted off Nantucket,’ Felger said, with his co-hosts unaware of his condition. ‘It’s more dramatic than it is, thank God, but for about 12 to 18 hours, it was a little dramatic.’
‘It happened in a blur. I cracked my neck on, I believe, the handlebars. I just sort of buckled and fell into the handlebars, and bam!’

Felger added his neck was sore after the fall, with a scan showing air pockets ‘in places they should not have been.’
‘I think I’m going to get the X-ray, a clean bill of health, and walk out of there, and they said, “No, we found these things, and we got to get you somewhere pretty quick,”‘ Felger continued.
‘There was a 12-to-18 hour stretch there where I didn’t know if I was looking at throat surgery, neck surgery, or something like that.’
Felger also revealed he did not need surgery and there was no permanent damage to his neck.
‘Big dumb Felger driving in the dark on little Nantucket streets, just lost my balance,’ he concluded. ‘I’m a dope. I’m a big dummy. It was all on me.’
Felger, 56, has been a well-known face in Boston’s sports media scene since 1997, when he had a full-time job covering the Bruins.
