Pope Leo XIV has issued a heartfelt plea for peace amid escalating U.S. and Israeli strikes on Iran, warning that continuing violence risks plunging the Middle East into an “irreparable abyss.”
Speaking at the Vatican, he urged leaders, including Donald Trump, to abandon threats and arms in favor of diplomacy and dialogue to stop the “spiral of violence.”
The pontiff emphasised that true stability comes from sincere negotiation, not military force, and called on the international community to assume its moral responsibility to prevent further bloodshed and promote peaceful coexistence.
