Police investigating human remains found near Loch Lomond are now searching for the dead man’s missing neighbour, Scotland News understands.

The male neighbour of Graham Wright has since “vanished” from his home in the Gorbals in Glasgow, according to police sources.

A hire van used by the neighbour has also been found burnt-out while police have been searching properties in Glasgow and Lanarkshire.

Mr Wright was reported missing last month. His remains were found at the Rubha Dubh, near Firkin Point by a member of the public on 13 September.

Police last week stressed that although the force’s major investigations team were handling the case, that did not necessarily mean it was a murder.

Mr Wright’s death is currently being treated as unexplained,

However, Scotland News understands that the manner of the death and the state of Mr Wright’s body indicate that he had been killed.

The neighbour was described as having disappeared, with one police source saying he “seemed to have vanished” and discarded his phone.

The hire van used by the neighbour was completely destroyed by fire.

Police Scotland declined to comment on the search for the neighbour.

Earlier this week The Scottish Sun newspaper reported that a flat in Rutherglen, South Lanarkshire, was also being investigated.

It comes weeks after the force had asked residents in the area about the disappearance of another man.

Busker Lewis Cuthbert, from Strathaven in South Lanarkshire, was last seen on 4 August.

Police Scotland said inquiries to trace Mr Cuthbert remain ongoing.

Last week police launched a major incident portal, where officers can be contacted anonymously with information about the case.

Mr Wright was reported missing on Monday 25 August. He was last seen on Wednesday 20 August on Cumberland Street in the Gorbals.

Police said he may have been in the same area again on Friday 5 September.

Det Supt Peter Sharp last week said extensive inquiries were taking place.

He added: “I would urge anyone who was staying in the area to come forward, as any piece of information, no matter how small or insignificant you think it is, could prove vital.

“We are also appealing for information from anyone who was onboard a boat, or any other vessel, or anyone who may have been using the water near to Firkin Point.”
