Police misinformation warning over girl’s weapons arrest in Dundee | UK News

Footage of the incident has been widely shared on social media

Police Scotland has warned the public not to spread misinformation after a 12-year-old girl was charged for allegedly brandishing weapons on a street in Dundee.

Footage has been circulating on social media, accompanied by speculation over the ethnicity and actions of the people allegedly confronted by the girl.

The force said a Bulgarian couple – a man and a woman – were approached by youths in St Ann Lane, Dundee, at about 19:40 on Saturday.

It is understood that no-one else has been arrested or is wanted in connection with the incident.

Elon Musk, the billionaire owner of X and Tesla, shared a post on his platform about the incident to his 225 million followers.

News understands that officers have found no evidence to substantiate claims being made online the youths were at risk of sexual assault.

The alleged incident took place near a path in the Lochee area of the city

A Police Scotland spokesperson confirmed that the girl had been charged with possession of offensive weapons and that an investigation was ongoing.

The force had initially said she was 14, before issuing a correction.

The spokesperson added: “We would like to thank the local community for their help with our investigation and would urge the public not to share misinformation about this incident or speculate on the circumstances.”
