The Philadelphia Eagles have broken an NFL salary record by handing star defensive tackle Jordan Davis an historic new three-year, $78 million extension.

Davis is heading into his fifth season with the team and has been rewarded with a meteoric $26m-a-year contract to make him the highest-paid DT in the entire league.

A huge $65m of the deal is guaranteed, and it keeps him with the franchise deep into his best years, after he has steadily improved in each season.

Davis was drafted No 13 overall in 2022 and has logged 162 tackles in the NFL, as well as eight sacks and 12 quarterback hits in 64 appearances.

The big new contract will also have gone down well with the team’s other star tackle Jalen Carter, who is nearing the end of his rookie contract and is eligible for a massive extension that is likely to blow Davis’ out of the water.

Moro Ojomo is also due to get extended as Philly prepares to make some big swings to keep its defense together ahead of the 2026 season.

Davis, meanwhile, was due to be paid $12m in his fifth season after the Eagles picked up his option a year ago.

His new contract makes him the current highest-paid tackle in the league and only Chris Jones of the Kansas City Chiefs has a higher average per year.

The Eagles will be looking to get back to the mountain top in 2026 after being dumped out in the Wild Card round of the playoffs by the San Francisco 49ers in January.

Philadelphia went 11-6 to top the NFC East in the regular season but fell at the first hurdle at home to lose 23-19 to San Fran.
