The first round of the Valero Texas Open was delayed by 90 minutes on Thursday morning due to a ‘dangerous weather situation’ overhead in San Antonio.
The first round of the tournament was due to begin at 7:30am local time but has been pushed back because of the conditions.
The event is the PGA Tour’s tournament in the week before The Masters, giving some of golf’s best players the chance to finalize their preparations for Augusta National.
The delay came after the PGA Tour issued an ominous weather warning earlier on Thursday that proved to be true.
‘A weak front will reach TPC San Antonio and eventually dissipate over the area today. Before it dissipates, a brief window for showers will exist, mainly between 7-10 am,’ the tour announced.
‘A few strikes of lightning could also occur.’

The PGA Tour later announced that the start time had been delayed by 45 minutes until 8:15am.
But then organizers once again delayed it as the dangerous weather continued overhead.
Players eventually teed off at 9am as the weather overhead cleared. The forecast for the rest of Thursday suggest players will only have to contend with cloudy skies.
Among the field are Tommy Fleetwood, Rickie Fowler, Max Homa, Tony Finau, Ludvig Aberg and Jordan Spieth.
