Pep Guardiola has spoken out about his Manchester City future amid speculation that he may not see out his contract with the club.

Guardiola signed a new deal in November that runs until 2027, but has experienced arguably his most difficult season at City since he joined the club nine years ago.

He was quoted this week by ESPN Brazil as saying that he will take a break when he leaves City, which raised some questions over whether he already has one foot out the door.

But Guardiola has insisted this is not the case.

Speaking ahead of his side’s Premier League clash with Wolves tonight, Guardiola told Sky Sports: ‘I didn’t say I’m leaving now or at the end of the season.’

‘If they sack me, yes (I will leave)! I’ve said, when I finish my time here, one year, two years, three years, four, five, six, I don’t know… I will take a break. I’m not retiring, but I will take a break, for sure.’

Having denied that he could move on from City in the near future, Guardiola was then asked if he could even extend his stay by signing another contract.

The Spanish boss was non-committal on this occasion, making it clear he did not want to look too far ahead.

‘In football, a two-year contract for a manager, it is an eternity,’ he added.

‘What I am saying, when I finish here I will take a break.’

Sky Sports pundit and former City defender Micah Richards was delighted to here that Guardiola will be going nowhere anytime soon, and joked that he should sign a 10-year contract.

A smiling Guardiola quickly shut down that idea, replying: ‘It’s not going to happen!’
