  • Bold call from Eels legend Nathan Hindmarsh
  • Called for club to release Dylan Brown immediately
  • Kiwi star recently inked $13million, 10-year deal at Knights

Parramatta Eels great Nathan Hindmarsh has called for the embattled NRL club to release Dylan Brown immediately.

In a declaration which will stun some loyal fans, Hindmarsh – who chalked up 330 appearances for the blue and golds between 1998 and 2012 – believes the five-eighth ‘isn’t offering much.’

It comes after the Kiwi international, 24, recently accepted a monster $13 million, 10-year deal to join Newcastle, beginning in 2026.

Jason Ryles’ men are 0-3 to start the season – and Hindmarsh believes it is time to cut Brown loose and give some younger players an opportunity.

‘We spoke the other week about Dylan Brown and possibly, is it better to just move him on?’ former backrower Hindmarsh said on The Bye Round podcast with host James Graham.

‘I’m getting to that point now where it makes sense. He’s not offering much at the Eels.

‘I’ve never been in that position (immense spotlight) before. It was easy for me to do my job, cart the ball up, tackle someone.

‘He (Brown) has to organise the whole sh*t show that it is at the moment.’

Days after agreeing to terms with Newcastle, Brown was outplayed by Tigers young gun Lachlan Galvin on home soil at Commbank Stadium.

Brown was greeted by jeers from Eels supporters before and during the heavy 32-6 defeat.

It comes as Graham feels Brown is playing ‘scared’ and hasn’t stepped up with halfback and captain Mitchell Moses out with a foot injury.

‘He is on a good wicket (salary) now, he needs to be showing a little bit more,’ the front-rower turned media identity said of the pivot.

‘Honestly, I feel watching him that he’s scared to fail. ‘And (equally) scared to make a mistake.

‘Nathan Cleary, the best halfback in the game, he makes mistakes. He’s not afraid to either.

‘Where I feel Dylan Brown has gone into his shell… and he’s sh*tting himself.’

Winless Parramatta next take on arch-rivals Manly on March 30 at Brookvale Oval from 4:05pm.
