Paddy Power have unveiled a pair of giant underpants to welcome Rory McIlroy’s return to Northern Ireland in a fitting tribute to the man who now has ‘the biggest balls in golf’.

Back in April, McIlroy, from nearby Holywood completed his long-awaited Grand Slam in typically dramatic fashion at the Masters.

He clawed his way back from a horror start to claim a first Green Jacket in style by beating Justin Rose in a play-off.

Now, the bookmaker has paid homage to McIlroy by installing underwear three times the size of a house by the road that enters Portrush. Now that takes some balls!

Two golf ‘balls’ can be seen swinging beneath the structure to toast McIlroy ahead of the upcoming major.

Speaking ahead of the tournament, McIlroy said: ‘Look, if I can’t get motivated to get up for an Open Championship at home, then I don’t know what can motivate me.

‘I just need to get myself in the right frame of mind.’

‘I climbed my Everest in April, and I think after you do something like that, you’ve got to make your way back down, and you’ve got to look for another mountain to climb. An Open at Portrush is certainly one of those.’
