Another item sold at Trader Joe’s has been added to a nationwide food recall already involving millions of pounds of products across the United States because they may contain glass fragments.

The recall specifically affects over 3 million pounds of Trader Joe’s Japanese Style Fried Rice with Edamame, Tofu and Hijiki Seaweed, produced by Ajinomoto Foods North America, Inc. and initially announced in early March.

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration recently upgraded the recall to Class II, indicating that consuming the product could lead to temporary or medically reversible health issues. While the risk is not life-threatening, it remains serious enough to warrant caution.

Officials say the products subject to the recall were distributed to Trader Joe’s locations in at least 43 states.

The company is urging anyone who purchased the affected frozen foods to either throw them out or return them to the place of purchase for a full refund. Shoppers with questions can contact Trader Joe’s Customer Relations for more information.

So far, no confirmed injuries have been linked to the recalled products, but authorities continue to warn consumers not to eat any items that match the descriptions in the recall notices.

An FDA enforcement report states that about 127,492 cases (over 3 million pounds) of food have been recalled due to possible glass contamination. The pieces of glass are reported to range from 1 to 3 cm long and 2 to 4 mm wide.

This update comes weeks after Ajinomoto Foods North America, Inc., based in Portland, Oregon, expanded a February 19 recall of frozen not-ready-to-eat chicken products over potential foreign material contamination after glass was discovered. About 33,617,045 additional pounds of various ready-to-eat and NRTE chicken and pork fried rice, ramen, and shu mai dumpling products have been recalled.
