Grants of up to £4,999 for local businesses to revitalise out-of-town commercial areas.

The closing date for this programme is Friday 28 November 2025.

Who it is for

The Out of Town Centre Shopfront Improvement Programme is open to premises with commercial shop-frontage facing the street within the project area.

Commercial premises include

  • retail shops
  • hair and beauty salons
  • hospitality eg restaurants, cafes and food takeaways
  • financial and professional services eg estate agents, solicitors etc
  • buildings that are being used for a community service

The inclusion of a building within the eligible area does not give any automatic entitlement to a grant.

Support you can get

The Out of Town Centre Shopfront Improvement Programme aims to revitalise out-of-town commercial areas across the borough, reinforcing the commitment to support local businesses and enhance the visual appeal of commercial areas beyond the town centres.

Businesses/property owners can apply for a grant of up to £4,999 to carry out external physical improvements to their commercial property. The grant will cover 80% of the eligible costs up to a maximum value of £4,999.

Applicants must demonstrate a minimum contribution of 20% of the overall project costs.

Funding is available for a range of external improvements, including new signage, painting and decorating or general façade upgrades.
