Oliver Glasner took an extraordinary swipe at Crystal Palace supporters on Friday after they called for his dismissal during Thursday’s Conference League draw at Zrinjski Mostar in Bosnia.

Palace have been dragged into a relegation battle after a run of just one win in 11 Premier League games, and suffered one of the biggest ever FA Cup shocks when they were dumped out by sixth-tier Macclesfield.

Glasner, who led Palace to FA Cup glory last season, is under huge pressure and the club’s hierarchy are weighing up whether to sack him before their predicament worsens.

The Austrian coach has already confirmed he will be leaving Selhurst Park at the end of the season but pulled no punches when asked about fans’ calling for him to be sacked during the 1-1 draw with Zrinjski Mostar.

‘I didn’t expect the fans to carry me through London after winning the trophy (FA Cup) so they can say and sing whatever they want.

‘I always say the most important thing is to stay humble and I think it’s the same for the fans,’ said Glasner.

Neither Crystal Palace players nor fans escaped Oliver Glasner’s firing line on Friday afternoon

‘Never forget where you have come from. The few who are so critical in this situation are not humble any more and have forgotten where they have come from. Usually in life you get punished for this.

‘The expectations have completely changed and we cannot deal with it as a team and our fans are dealing even worse.’

Glasner also slammed his players for the slump in form. ‘I feel many players think they have to move on and some are looking at where they will play next year rather than where they are playing right now,’ he added.

Palace host Wolves on Saturday with Glasner expected to be in charge, despite the club reviewing his position. As well as guiding Palace to their first major trophy, he oversaw the club’s longest ever unbeaten run – 19 games – between April and October.

‘I’ve always given my best,’ he said. ‘Palace have had the best time in their history and I played a small part in this. It would have been easy for me to have stepped back earlier – there have been many opportunities.

‘But I didn’t because I felt responsible for the players.’
