A Toronto police officer was shot and killed Thursday by a suspect linked to an attack at a U.S. Consulate, police say.
In March, two people emerged from a white Honda RV SUV at around 4:30 a.m. and fired multiple shots at the U.S. Consulate in Toronto building before fleeing.
The shooting damaged the outside of the building but did not cause any injuries.
A 43-year-old Toronto police constable had been investigating several other shootings around the Greater Toronto Area, including the U.S. consulate attack, when he was shot and killed, Chief Myron Demkiw said.
Police were carrying out a search warrant at a residential building at around 5:42 a.m. when an “exchange of gunfire” broke out, Toronto police said.
