An NYPD detective was caught brazenly sneaking into the Ryder Cup on Friday after claiming he was working as part of Donald Trump’s security team, according to a report.
Det. Melvin Eng, 46, snuck into the showdown between the USA and Team Europe at Bethpage Black in Farmingdale, New York on Friday, the same day that the president attended the tournament with his granddaughter, Kai.
Eng was supposedly on sick leave but somehow bypassed the horde of Secret Service agents and State Police by arriving at the Long Island golf course in full tactical gear, a source told The New York Post.
The officer, who is president of the NYPD Asian Jade Society, has since been suspended by the department without pay and is facing administrative charges for theft of services. The Daily Mail has contacted the NYPD for comment.
Eng, who reportedly even claimed he was with the feds, almost succeeded with his ruse until he suffered an inane mishap.
He reportedly fumbled his gun magazine in front of actual working security, who swiftly caught on and foiled his plan.

Trump, wearing his own pair of white golf shoes, ha turned up to support America’s finest in the afternoon four-ball sessions on Friday’s opening day of the Ryder Cup.
Arriving with his 18-year-old granddaughter, who is an avid golfer herself, the president was greeted by cries of ‘USA’ and even calls to pick up his own golf clubs to represent the struggling American team.
Ahead of the first match’s tee time at 12:25pm, he walked out onto the grandstand behind the first tee box to raucous chants of ‘USA’ from the New York supporters in attendance.
Trump greeted a line of dignitaries gathered on the platform as Kai whipped up the American-heavy crowd before the duo took their position inside a glass box for the national anthem.
Much to the likely panic of the horde of Secret Service onsite, Trump left the safety of his glass box to accompany golfer and ally Bryson DeChambeau out onto the tee for the American and teammate Ben Griffin’s match against Tommy Fleetwood and Justin Rose.
After watching all four groups tee off in the final matches of the day, the president made a hasty exit from Bethpage, boarding Air Force one at 2:50pm ET.
His presence at Bethpage has also added an extra layer of complication to the already vast security measures in place at the sporting spectacle.
Overnight the protective box of Perspex glass had been erected at center of the lowest tier of the towering grandstand that looms over the first tee and neighboring 18th green. The president soaked up the action from the shielded area just 20 feet away from the players’ entrance tunnel.

Earlier in the morning, snipers had climbed to the top section of the stand, which had been blocked off to spectators and media members, to take their position ahead of Trump’s arrival.
TSA-level security checkpoints manned by secret service agents had been set up on each side of the clubhouse and first tee area for the day.
The tight security measures applied to everyone attempting to access the area, including a member of medical staff who tried to rapidly respond to a medical emergency in the clubhouse. Secret service agents prohibited him from entering with his medical kit until an official in Team USA uniform instructed them to let him pass.
Once through the checks, more agents swarmed the entrances to the gallery with bomb sniffing dogs.
Drones as well as chemical, biological and radiological units also descended on the golf course, where spectators had to pay an eye-watering $749.51 for entry.
A string of items were banned from ‘the first tee grandstand or clubhouse area.
Range finders were stripped from the shelves in the merchandise megastore for the day and returned when doors open again on Saturday morning.
Fans were also barred from bringing the golf gadgets, which are routinely used by golfers to estimate the distance between the ball and the pin, into the event.

Other items prohibited from Friday’s opening session included portable folding chairs, torch-style lighters and large vaping devices.
Laptops and tablets were also barred from the course, while ‘all bags, personal items and their contents may be subject to inspection.’ The use of umbrellas, meanwhile, were ‘restricted in certain areas of the course and main grandstand,’ with ponchos ‘strongly encouraged’.
