Tigers enforcer Terrell May says he never thought he’d be picked for the Blues and has claimed that his last name played a part in him missing out on selection for the Origin squad.

The talented 26-year-old prop has been in outstanding form for the Tigers and looked to be heading for Origin selection, but was snubbed by NSW selectors.

‘It’s painful to miss out,’ he told News Corp.

‘But, to be honest, I knew I wasn’t going to make it before the season even started. I knew no matter how well I played last Sunday, I wouldn’t get picked.

‘I said to my family and friends, “No matter how good I play, I can guarantee I won’t make it”.’

‘I feel like I’ve got to work extra hard because of my last name. Some people don’t like my personality or my name.

‘Having to leave the Roosters, too, hurt my image. No one knows what really happened. I still don’t understand why. My personality is who I am. I don’t want to be fake.’

May’s brothers, Tyrone and Taylan, have also been involved in controversies off the field.

May says he’d like to make contact with Blues coach Laurie Daley after the first Origin match.

‘He’s too busy right now getting the team ready. It’s not about me,’ May said.

‘I’d love to speak to Laurie at some stage to get his opinion on what I need to work on to become part of the squad. I’ll ring him.’

Last week,  Blues legend Brad Fittler blasted May over a controversial Origin leak, telling the Tigers star to ‘humble up’.

May all but officially announced that he wasn’t getting an Origin call-up when he told another gamer: ‘You know that Blues jersey I bought you? Chuck it in the bin’.

May later joked: ‘Might have to switch my allegiance’.

Fittler wasn’t happy with May’s behaviour and delivered a scathing rant on Nine’s The Sunday Footy Show.

‘[Manly back-rower] Haumole Olakau’atu did a couple of years ago something very similar, and then last year I went into Manly and he came up and apologised and sat there and just spoke about how he was immature,’ Fittler said.

‘I really respected things he was speaking about and how light he was about it.

‘I reckon maybe Terrell May should maybe ring Haumole and humble up a little bit.

‘Seriously, what are these blokes thinking? There’s people at home who just love this game. They just love it. And you sit there playing a game and all of a sudden you want to just talk like this. How blasé.

‘Pathetic.’
