A chartered Qantas flight carrying Peter V’landys and Andrew Abdo to Las Vegas has been forced to turn around due to an issue with the air conditioning.

Qantas flight 337 took off at 3.20pm on Tuesday for the 13-hour trip to the American city but returned to Sydney Airport shortly after 5.20pm.

ARLC chairman V’landys and NRL chief executive Abdo were aboard along with management, staff Newcastle CEO Peter Parr, media figures and several Newcastle Knights fans, the Sydney Morning Herald reported.

The flight was due to depart, again, at 6.30pm.

NRL hosted a week of activities ahead of its season opener at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas on February 28.

The three-game launch will include battles between the Knights and Cowboys, Dragons and Bulldogs and Hull KR and Leeds Rhinos.

More to come…
