It was inevitable, really. Last week, Nintendo announced it will be increasing the price of the Nintendo Switch 2 in the UK, with the price hike coming into effect on 1 September this year.
The gaming giant says the decision was made “in light of changes in market conditions” and after reviewing its “global business outlook”, with a price hike confirmed for the US, Canada, Europe and other regions around the world.
What’s to blame? Most likely, RAMageddon, the ongoing memory shortage caused by AI datacentres hoovering up RAM and storage supply, which has already pushed up gadget prices and reportedly delayed consoles like the Steam Machine and the PlayStation 6.
While Nintendo has yet to confirm how much the Switch 2 will jump by in the UK, it’s getting a $50 price increase in the US and a €30 price hike in Europe. But if you’re yet to pick up the console, now might actually be the best time. Not only will you beat the price hike, but Amazon’s responded to the news by being extra sweet and slashing the price of the console for the very first time.
Nintendo Switch 2
Slashed to its lowest price ever, you can now save £26 on the Nintendo Switch 2 thanks to this deal at Amazon. “It’s the small things that really make the Nintendo Switch 2 such a brilliant system,” I said in my review. “The magnetic Joy-Cons, the improved mic, the snappier UI, GameChat, accessibility – all these upgrades just make using it smoother and more enjoyable to play.”
