The console is coming in and out of stock by the minute (Alex Lee/The Independent)

It’s now been over a week since the Nintendo Switch 2 launched, and stock is still disappearing fast. Right now, Very, ShopTo and EE have consoles available, but it won’t be delivered this week.

JD Williams restocked earlier this morning, but all consoles have gone now. ShopTo is taking back-orders for delivery from 18 June, while EE has a pricier bundle for existing mobile customers only

Yesterday was one of the busiest days for Switch 2 restocks so far. John Lewis, Currys, Game, EE, ShopTo and Very all went live at some point, but stock didn’t stick around for long. Most of it’s gone now, but a few scraps remain if you act fast.

If you can’t wait until mid-June or aren’t on EE, Smyths Toys is tipped to restock soon. I’m keeping this page updated with all the latest drops – so keep checking back.

Where to buy the Nintendo Switch 2 right now

  • Very: In stock now, arrives on 20 June
  • ShopTo: In stock now on back-order, dispatches from 18 June
  • EE: In stock now for existing customers, delivered within 1-3 working days
  • Smyths Toys: Expected to restock 12-14 June

Nintendo Switch 2 specs

I've already nabbed a console - here's how to get your own

The Switch 2 might look familiar, but there’s a lot going on underneath. It’s powered by a new custom Nvidia chip, so games don’t just load faster, they look better and run more smoothly. You get 12GB of RAM (up from 4GB on the original Switch), and most of that goes straight into powering games, not just background stuff.

The screen is still LCD, not OLED, but it’s bigger at 7.9in and has 1080p resolution. It supports HDR and a 120Hz refresh rate. Colours pop more, and motion looks buttery-smooth in handheld mode. There’s also DLSS upscaling built in, so older games look better. Sadly, while it supports variable refresh rates, it doesn’t work when docked – just in handheld mode.

The Nintendo Switch 2 on its own costs £399.99, and the main bundle with Mario Kart World costs £429.99. Buying the bundle saves you £40 compared to picking up the game separately, so it’s better value if you’re planning to grab it anyway.

No big discounts yet – it’s not even been out a week, after all – but some retailers have larger, more expensive bundles. These include the new Switch 2 camera (£49, Amazon.co.uk), the Pro controller (£74.99, Very.co.uk) and the official carry case and screen protector (£20.99, Amazon.co.uk), as well as extra games and accessories.

Nintendo Switch 2 launch games

There are plenty of new Nintendo Switch 2 games at launch. Mario Kart World is the big one, but you’ve also got upgraded versions of Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom, plus mammoth games like Cyberpunk 2077 Ultimate Edition and Hogwarts Legacy – two games that really test the console’s muscle.

Other launch day games include Hades 2, Split Fiction, Sonic X Shadow Generations, Street Fighter 6, Survival Kids and Suikoden I & II HD Remaster. You’ve also got Yakuza 0: Director’s Cut, Kunitsu-Gami: Path of the Goddess, and Deltarune Chapters 1–4, plus more niche picks like Fantasy Life i and Bravely Default: Flying Fairy HD. Civilization VII and No Man’s Sky are here too, and Nintendo Switch 2 Welcome Tour acts as a mini showcase for the new hardware.

On top of that, loads of older Nintendo titles have been patched with free performance updates, and Wind Waker, F-Zero GX and Soul Calibur II are now available through the new Switch Online GameCube library.

Very has just dropped two new Nintendo Switch 2 bundles

Two new Nintendo Switch 2 bundles have just landed on Very’s website.

One includes Mario Kart World and a Samsung microSD Express card for £479, the other includes The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom for £494. Both arrive on Friday, 20 June.

Could Smyths Toys still restock the Switch 2 today?

It’s gone past 2 pm, and Smyths Toys still hasn’t restocked the Nintendo Switch 2 online yet today. Odds of a new drop now are getting slimmer.

Historically, Smyths has tended to restock mid-morning, usually between 9 am and 11 am.

So could it still drop? It’s getting less likely, but there’s still a chance.

JD Williams has sold out, but Switch 2 is still in stock at EE and ShopTo

JD Williams is now out of stock, so the only places where you can currently buy a console is at EE and ShopTo.

I’m still waiting on shops like Smyths Toys and Argos to restock this week – neither have done so yet.

What happened to AO?

AO waited until the very last minute to join the Switch 2 race. The console first appeared on its website just two days before release, with stock going live on 3 June. It sold out almost immediately and hasn’t returned since.

Weirdly, AO was one of the best places to find a PS5 during the great stock shortage of 2021, so I’m quite surprised that it hasn’t really had any stock at all.

Will Asda restock the Switch 2 soon?

Asda was one of the surprise retailers on launch day, with the Nintendo Switch 2 going live on the evening of 4 June. But since then, it’s been completely silent.

While it’s unclear if that was all the inventory it had, the odds are high. It’s not unusual for Asda to have a single big drop and then disappear from the restock race entirely.

That said, it’s worth keeping an eye on the site just in case it gets another one.

Will OG accessories still work on the Switch 2?

When I got my Switch 2 last week, I realised that if I wanted to play co-operatively on the sofa with my family, I had to buy extra controllers.

While the original Pro Controller works with the Switch 2, the older Joy-Cons won’t connect to the newer console.

Your existing microSD cards won’t work either, but don’t worry, you won’t lose your games. Just buy a microSD Express card, and Nintendo can transfer your games over when you set up your console.

Nintendo SanDisk microSD Express card for Nintendo Switch 2: £49.99, Amazon.co.uk

(Alex Lee)

This is the official microSD card from Nintendo and SanDisk, and is the one that I have. It comes with an extra 256GB of storage, so you’ll have plenty of room for games.

Should you wait for Prime Day deals?

Amazon’s summer Prime Day is expected next month, so should you hold off? Probably not.

While I did see discounts on the Nintendo Switch OLED last year, I don’t think we’ll see any discounts on the Switch 2, especially since it will only be a month or so old by Prime Day.

Currys may have Nintendo Switch 2 stock in-store

Currys might be out of stock online, but there’s still hope. Some branches have leftover Nintendo Switch 2 consoles available in-store. It’s just not showing online.

A handful of readers have messaged saying they were able to grab a console by heading in-store, so you might want to try your luck.

An update on JD Williams Nintendo Switch 2 stock

If you’re buying a Nintendo Switch 2 from JD Williams, you’ve got one delivery option.

Click-and-collect isn’t available at the moment, but delivery is there. If you order today, it’ll arrive within 3 to 5 days, so it’s not too long of a wait.

The Nintendo Switch 2 Mario Kart World bundle is in stock at JD Williams

Here’s an unexpected one – the Nintendo Switch 2 bundle with Mario Kart World has just been restocked at JD Williams. There’s free click-and-collect, and delivery is expected by 18 June.

I expect this one to go quick – the retailer never has a huge amount of stock.
