Nicole Kidman has broken her silence about her divorce from Keith Urban, saying her ex will always remain a part of her family.
The 58-year-old actor filed for divorce in September last year after nearly 20 years of marriage. Her filing came after a source told TMZ that she and Urban had been living separately “since the beginning of summer” 2025. They share two daughters, Sunday Rose, 17, and Faith Margaret, 15.
In a new interview with Variety, Kidman was asked if she was doing all right since her separation.
“I am, because I’m always going to be moving toward what’s good. What I’m grateful for is my family and keeping them as is and moving forward. That’s that,” the Babygirl star said.
“Everything else I don’t discuss out of respect. I’m staying in a place of, ‘We are a family,’ and that’s what we’ll continue to be. My beautiful girls, my darlings, who are suddenly women.”
Kidman appeared to hint at her divorce earlier in the interview while discussing how 2025 went for her. “I was quiet. I had other things going on. I was in my shell,” she said.
“Now I’m in a place of saying, ‘2026. Here we go.’ I have Practical Magic with Sandy,” she added, referring to the sequel of her iconic 1998 film with Sandra Bullock. “I’ll be in full witch mode.”
Only a day after the separation news went public, Kidman filed for divorce, citing irreconcilable differences as the reason for their split.
The Eyes Wide Shut star’s divorce was finalized in January. Nashville Judge Stephanie J. Williams confirmed in a court filing that the former couple’s agreements regarding asset division and child custody were sufficient. Neither Kidman nor Urban attended the court hearing.
Under the agreed plan, Kidman will serve as the primary residential parent, with the children expected to continue living in Nashville. The settlement also stipulates that neither parent will require child or spousal support, and their joint assets will be divided roughly equally.
Hailing from Australia, Kidman and Urban met in Los Angeles in 2005 and married in Sydney the following year.
This was Urban’s first marriage, and Kidman’s second, following her union with Tom Cruise from 1990 to 2001.
The actor married the Top Gun star in 1990 when she was just 23, but the couple divorced after just over a decade together in 2001. The couple has two adopted children together: Isabella and Connor.
“I was so young when I got married. I look back now and I’m like, ‘What?’,” she told Red magazine in 2016. “You look at Taylor Swift, I mean how old is she? She’s 26. I had two kids by the time I was 27 and I’d been married for four years. But that’s what I wanted.”
