It hasn’t even been a full 12 hours since Miami Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel was fired from his job and he’s already receiving offers from other teams.
After four years at the helm in south Florida, McDaniel was shown the door when the Dolphins were eliminated from the playoffs.
The Dolphins put up a 7-10 record this season and missed the postseason for the second straight year.
McDaniel’s name is expected to earn plenty of attention across the NFL for coaching positions – with one team not even waiting to pull the trigger on an offer.
According to NFL Network insider Ian Rapoport, the Detroit Lions have already contacted McDaniel for their vacant offensive coordinator position.
Rapoport adds that McDaniel will be ‘a top candidate for any open OC job’.

The Lions fired offensive coordinator John Morton in a season where head coach Dan Campbell took over offensive play-calling.
McDaniel would find a much healthier dynamic on offense in Detroit – with a solid receiving corps, one of the best backfield tandems in the league and a healthy quarterback in Jared Goff.
In Miami, while McDaniel did have good receivers like Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle, he had to deal with multiple injuries to quarterback Tua Tagovailoa and an evolving running back room.
Of course, McDaniel could also find a head coaching job. As of Thursday, eight NFL teams have fired their head coaches – including the Dolphins.
The other seven teams are the Baltimore Ravens, the Arizona Cardinals, the New York Giants, the Tennessee Titans, the Cleveland Browns, the Atlanta Falcons and the Las Vegas Raiders.
There are also more than enough offensive coordinator openings. One spot could be the Kansas City Chiefs, who are rumored to be moving on from Matt Nagy.
One person who knows both the Chiefs and the Dolphins is Hill, who responded to a reporter suggesting McDaniel could take the job by saying, ‘Mike don’t fit yall scheme buddy sorry to tell ya.’
