Washington Commanders star Deatrich Wise has penned an emotional statement to his fans after being ruled out for the rest of the season with a leg injury.
Wise suffered a gruesome leg injury during their 27-18 loss to the Green Bay Packers on Thursday after trying to block an extra point attempt by kicker Brandon McManus.
His Commanders teammates stood nearby to offer support during the devastating scenes before Wise was carted off the field. He was officially ruled out for the rest of the game during the third quarter.
Now, the 31-year-old has broken his silence over the matter. Taking to his Instagram , he wrote: ‘I’m truly grateful for all the love, prayers, and support I’ve received.
‘This was an unfortunate experience, but when you give so much to the game and do everything you can to improve for yourself and for your team’s success it can feel like there’s a lot to play for. When you stop, it can feel like everything around you stops too.
‘Out of every test comes growth, shaping us into who we need to become to accomplish the goals we set from the start.

Wise, a former Patriots captain, joined the Commanders this March, signing with the team on a one-year, $3.25million deal.
The 31-year-old defensive lineman had spent his entire career before that in New England after they selected him in the fourth round of the 2017 NFL Draft.
He’s notched at least five sacks in three different seasons during his career – including last season – and was brought to Washington to be a veteran presence on the defensive line.
Wise impressed in Washington’s Week 1 win over the Giants as he racked up two solo tackles, one tackle for loss and a quarterback hit.
However, their game against Green Bay turned into a nightmare evening for Jayden Daniels and his team, who also lost running back Austin Ekeler to a suspected Achilles tear while tight end John Bates and receiver Noah Brown also went down with injuries.
The injury to veteran running back Ekeler will sting particularly hard after he was seen going down with a non-contact injury in the second half.

Ekeler, 30, went out to run a route when he felt something in his leg and crumpled to the floor.
He needed help getting off of the field and could be seen not putting any weight on his right (injured leg) before being taken to the locker room on a cart.
The Commanders later confirmed that he’d suffered an Achilles injury, though they didn’t immediately say how severe it was.
Ekeler began the season atop the Commanders’ depth chart after starting six games for Washington last year.
