Details in the Colorado shooting of now-New York Jets wide receiver Josh Reynolds have revealed he was likely mistaken for someone else.
Reynolds, who was a member of the Denver Broncos in 2024, was shot by multiple people who followed him and his entourage from a strip club.
The people who perpetrated the shooting believed Reynolds resembled someone who scammed them out of $250,000 worth of cocaine.
Seven adults and a juvenile have been arrested on attempted murder charges while and eighth remains at large, according to the Denver Post.
One of the adults charged, Burr Charlesworth, has pled guilty to felony assault and has been handed a ten-year prison sentence. He told authorities his plan was to find the people who scammed him and ‘f*** them up’.
It’s not clear why there was confusion over the identity of Reynolds, who was shot once in the back of his head and once in his left leg.

One of Reynolds’ friends was also shot in the back. Another was hit by shattered glass.
Four vehicles followed Reynolds from the strip club and fired dozens of rounds at him. Prosecutors have called the incident a ‘calculated and carefully coordinated assassination attempt.’
The 30-year-old Reynolds inked a one-year deal worth up to $5million with the Jets this past spring.
He was previously a member of the Jacksonville Jaguars, but was cut in March.
Reynolds has not often spoken about the incident in public, telling reporters after a June practice that he’d moved on.
‘Yeah, life is precious, for sure,’ Reynolds said at the time. ‘But the more you’ve got to think about it, the more you’re just kind of re-living it.
‘And so I’ve moved past it, I’m here in Jersey and ready to get going.’
