Amari Cooper’s reunion with the Las Vegas Raiders is now short-lived, as the wide receiver has informed the team he no longer wishes to play football and is retiring from the NFL.
Cooper entered the NFL as the fourth overall selection of the Raiders in the 2015 NFL Draft and stayed with the team until 2018. He had signed a one-year, $3.5million deal with the team last month.
Nine days after putting pen to paper, the 31-year-old changed his mind and decided to retire from football instead.
Cooper was only a member of Las Vegas’ practice squad, but provided a veteran dynamic to the wide receivers that is now lost without him.
The Raiders open the regular season on Sunday on the road against the New England Patriots, with Cooper leaving the organization three days before kickoff.
Cooper was shockingly dealt to the Cowboys in the middle of the 2018 season for a first-round pick, which ended up being Johnathan Abram.
