Los Angeles Chargers linebacker Denzel Perryman was released from jail Monday afternoon, three days after his arrest on a felony weapons charge.

The 32-year-old had been held without bail since Friday night when he was detained in Inglewood, California after police found discovered five firearms in his car, including two assault style rifles, during a traffic stop.

Perryman was scheduled to appear at the Inglewood Courthouse on Tuesday morning but it has now been revealed that the Los Angeles District Attorney has opted against charging the former second-round draft pick, according to ESPN.

It is currently unclear why LA District Attorney Nathan Hockman decided not to file criminal charges, but it means that Perryman’s record will list a detention rather than a full arrest.

Perryman was allegedly on the way to the gun range when cops searched his car and found he had a pair of AR rifles and three handguns in his trunk. The rifles were allegedly non-compliant, which is illegal in California.

Perryman was described as ‘extremely cooperative with deputies throughout the investigation,’ per USA Today.

Chargers head coach Jim Harbaugh told reporters that he had visited his player on Monday

Chargers head coach Jim Harbaugh told reporters that he had visited his player on Monday

‘NFL player, Denzel Perryman, was arrested by South Los Angeles Station deputies on Friday, August 1, 2025,’ a police statement read to the outlet. ‘Deputies conducted a traffic stop of Mr. Perryman’s vehicle for vehicle code violations. During their investigation, Mr. Perryman was arrested for multiple weapons violations.’

Just hours before Perryman’s release, Chargers head coach Jim Harbaugh had addressed reporters at training camp, revealing that he had visited his player in jail on Monday.

‘Love Denzel. He’s always done right,’ Harbaugh said. adding that Perryman had been in good spirits. ‘He’s never been in trouble. Got a beautiful family, and we’ll let the due process play out.’

Perryman has been in the NFL since 2015 and is now in his second stint with the Chargers after the team drafted him a decade ago.

The 32-year-old played in San Diego and Los Angeles from 2015 to 2020 before bouncing around the league with the Texans and Raiders before ending up back with the Chargers before the start of last season. Perryman has one Pro Bowl appearance in his career, in 2021 with Las Vegas. That season, Perryman had 154 total tackles in his 15 games played.

The Chargers are looking to build on a playoff appearance last season in their second year with Harbaugh as their head coach.
