NFL fans spot Cowboys star punching Eagles player in face in latest violent moment from fiery opening game

Another violent moment from the Eagles and Cowboys’ testy season opener has emerged, as video shows Dallas’ Tyler Guyton hitting Philly’s Jalyx Hunt in the face during the game.

Left tackle Guyton and linebacker Hunt were jostling for position as quarterback Dak Prescott was back to pass when the Cowboys offensive lineman took things over the top.

The moment, which has since gone viral on X, saw Guyton hit Hunt across the head with an open hand – sending his opponent to the ground.

Referees seemingly did not see the exchange as there was no penalty given for the play.

However, the game officials certainly got involved earlier in the night, as Eagles star Jalen Carter was ejected just seconds into the contest for spitting on Prescott.

With Philadelphia fullback Ben VanSumeren receiving medical attention on the field after injuring himself on the opening kickoff, Prescott spat on the ground in the direction of Carter and the Eagles’ huddle.

And Carter apparently took offense at the action, claiming it was ‘hostile’ while his teammate was down on the turf, according to Nick Harris of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram.

The defensive lineman then decided to spit on the quarterback with a referee right behind him and was promptly booted from the game.

Following the game, Carter admitted he’d made a ‘mistake’ as he spoke about the unfortunate moment.

‘I feel bad for my teammates and the fans out there,’ he said. ‘I’m doing it for them,’ Carter said. ‘It was a mistake that happened on my side.

‘It won’t happen again. I don’t try to do nothing out of the ordinary. I wanted to be out there with the guys so bad.’

Prescott, meanwhile, explained: ‘I’ve probably spit a thousand times during the game, I guess I needed to spit so I spit ahead. He (Carter) said, ‘Are you trying to spit on me?’ At that point I felt he was insulting me, I wouldn’t try and spit on anyone.

‘He just spit on me in that moment. It was more of a surprise, refs saw it and threw the flag, I thought ‘hell yeah we’ll get 15 yards to start the game’. I didn’t realize he was going to get ejected, he is a hell of a player. It changed our gameplan.’

In addition to his ejection, Carter could face ‘additional discipline’ for the spitting incident, as league insider Tom Pelissero reported.

The NFL is reviewing the moment, while it remains to be seen if Prescott is punished as well.

Ultimately, the Eagles emerged victorious in the game as they beat their rivals 24-20.
