California Gov. Gavin Newsom made fun of President Donald Trump’s hair during his State of the Union address Tuesday night as the Democrat posted his live reactions online.
As Trump gave the longest-ever State of the Union address in history, clocking in at 1 hour and 47 minutes, a few strands of his hair appeared out of place.
Newsom, who has a notable slick-backed hairstyle, wrote: “Oh no, Donald. You need some of my hair gel!!!”
Both men share one thing in common when it comes to hair — they are embracing their natural color.
In his “only concession to age,” the president is reportedly letting his golden-dyed hair turn white, according to New York Magazine, citing a senior staffer. Newsom, meanwhile, has embraced the grey.
While Trump gave his address in Washington, D.C., Newsom was in New York City promoting his new book.
After the speech, the Democrat shared his reactions on his X account and challenged claims made by the president, including that “the economy is roaring like never before.”
Trump boasted about delivering a new age of prosperity that most polls suggest the American public is simply not feeling, and made familiar remarks about the U.S. being “the hottest country” right now.
“GDP growth was down from 4.4% to 1.4% last quarter,” Newsom reacted. “Unemployment is up. Energy bills are up. And Donald Trump is enforcing an illegal tax on the American people.”
In another attack, the governor wrote: “The fraud America should be talking about is the billions of dollars Donald Trump has enriched himself with while in office.”
Newsom concluded that Trump’s speech was “boring.” His official press office X account, which has adopted the same tone as Trump’s Truth Social posts, called it “AN AMAZING STATE OF THE SNOOZE!”
The Democrat’s press office earlier taunted in a social media post that Newsom was dominating news coverage on the same day as Trump’s speech. “FOX NEWS IS WALL-TO-WALL COVERAGE OF ME,” the post noted.
Newsom’s aggressive social media approach to Trump, attacking him on everything from his policies to his health, has positioned him as one of the most prominent opponents of the administration, according to pundits.
Many believe that the California governor is weighing up his chances of a run for the White House himself.
