Businesses, education and training providers, and policymakers are encouraged to attend this event

A free conference aimed at tackling Newry, Mourne and Down’s workforce challenges is taking place on Wednesday 8 October 2025 in Newcastle.

Businesses, education and training providers, and policymakers are encouraged to attend this event and play a significant role in shaping and developing a Labour Market Strategy for the whole district for the next decade and beyond.

About the event

The presentations, panel discussions and interactive roundtable discussions will focus on continuing to build on the huge quantity of feedback from businesses, education and training providers and policymakers at last year’s conference and, following that, the work that has been done since then.

The aim is to develop bespoke solutions to the workforce challenge of the next decade and beyond as businesses across every sector of our local economy struggle to recruit and retain staff.

The full line-up of expert speakers will shortly be announced, and the event will be hosted by MC, Broadcaster and Journalist, Mark Simpson.

Event details

Date Wednesday 8 October 2025
Time 9am to 3pm
Venue Burrendale Hotel, Newcastle
Cost Free

This conference is organised by Newry Chamber of Commerce and Trade in partnership with Newry, Mourne and Down Labour Market Partnership (LMP) – funded by the Department for Communities, Newry, Mourne and Down District Council, Southern Regional College (SRC), South Eastern Regional College (SERC), Ulster University and Queen’s University Belfast (QUB).

Find out more and book your place at the Newry, Mourne and Down Recruitment and Skills Conference.
