  • Veteran denied Roosters flyer Dominic Young a certain try
  • Later revealed Tuivasa-Sheck had earlier torn his hamstring
  • Clutch moment proved to be crucial in Warriors’ 14-6 win

Roger Tuivasa-Sheck is in the twilight of his footy career – but the veteran turned back the clock on Friday with a moment his Warriors teammates won’t forget anytime soon.

The winger, 31, produced a stunning try-saver to deny Roosters flyer Dominic Young with the game in the balance in the second half.

Post game, it emerged the cross-code star had torn his hamstring before his on-field heroics.

Warriors coach Andrew Webster praised the determination of Tuivasa-Sheck in the post game press conference after his side dug deep to win 14-6 in Auckland.

‘It was really tough, I’m really proud of the boys,’ he said.

‘Roger had already torn his hamstring….he missed their 40-20 [kick] because he couldn’t get back in time….and then makes a try-saving tackle in the corner when his hamstring’s already gone.

‘Those big plays, they were happening everywhere and you need them [in tight games].

‘You can’t just come out and be clinical with every play.

‘You’ve got to earn it…..be tough and find a way against a good club.’

Tuivasa-Sheck, who began his NRL career with the Roosters, also impressed his former coach Trent Robinson.

‘That’s the Rooster in him,’ Robinson joked. ‘It would have been nice to ice that (try) but that’s Roger for you.

‘He’s a good man, a great player and selfless, and those types of players come up with those plays.’

Scans will determine the severity of Tuivasa-Sheck’s injury – but given his history of hamstring strains, he is tipped to be sidelined for at least three weeks.

The Warriors are next in action on March 30 when they tackle the Wests Tigers at Campbelltown.
