The New York Jets are reportedly considering a major pivot as they prepare to pick at No. 2 in the NFL Draft.

It has been assumed in recent weeks that head coach Aaron Glenn and general manager Darren Mougey would use their first pick of the draft on Ohio State linebacker Arvell Reese.

But now, according to NFL insiders Peter Schrager and Daniel Jeremiah, they may be reconsidering.

It’s reported that the Jets are instead considering selecting Texas Tech edge rusher David Bailey at No. 2 overall instead.

The Jets believe that Bailey is more ‘pro-ready, polished’ and capable of making the step up to the NFL immediately.

The Jets need any high draft pick to be ready to make an immediate impact, given their horrific 3-14 first season under Glenn last year.

Reese is seen by many as the top prospect in this year’s draft class and is the favorite to go No. 2 overall behind quarterback Fernando Mendoza.

He was part of the Buckeyes team to win the national championship in 2024 and showed off his versatility by playing in a number of roles in Matt Patricia’s defense.

If the Jets pass on Reese, then it’s unlikely he’ll fall far with the Arizona Cardinals, Tennessee Titans and New York Giants immediately up next and in desperate need of talent.

Like other teams in the NFL, the Jets were busy in free agency. They signed safety Minkah Fitzpatrick and traded with the Las Vegas Raiders for quarterback Geno Smith.

They also placed the non-exclusive franchise tag on star running back Breece Hall and traded quarterback Justin Fields to the Kansas City Chiefs, as well as trading for T’Vondre Sweat from the Titans for edge Jermaine Johnson.
