Funding to drive global research and innovation

The European Commission has agreed a new €14 billion Horizon Europe Work Programme for 2026 to 2027, with fresh funding calls that may interest innovative businesses. The programme will support projects that help deliver climate goals, increase the use of artificial intelligence (AI) and strengthen resilience across the economy.

New funding calls and priorities

New ‘horizontal’ calls will back clean industrial technologies and decarbonisation in energy‑intensive sectors, as well as trustworthy AI in areas like materials, agriculture and health. Other funding will support sustainable neighbourhood projects under the New European Bauhaus facility.

Support for talent, start-ups and scale-ups

The programme will also invest in research talent, research infrastructures and European innovation ecosystems to help start-ups and scale-ups grow. This includes support for international collaboration and networks linking businesses with universities and research organisations.

Simpler application process and SME focus

The application process for this Work Programme has been simplified, with less administrative burden on applicants, more lump‑sum funding and more two‑stage calls where you submit a short proposal first. There is a stronger focus on topics open to newcomers and small and medium‑sized enterprises (SMEs), making it easier for smaller businesses to get involved.

How your business can get involved

Horizon Europe is open to businesses of all sizes, including SMEs and early‑stage companies, often working in partnership with universities, research organisations or other companies in Europe and associated countries. If your business is developing new products, services or processes in areas such as clean technologies, AI, digitalisation, advanced manufacturing, life sciences or sustainable design, you may find relevant calls in the new programme.
