We’re pleased to announce that Great British Nuclear (GBN) will become the new company partner to the Nuclear Institute’s Young Generation Network (YGN) from April 2025. This three-year partnership was announced by Alys Gardner, GBN’s Head of Skills and Development Strategy, at the National Skills Academy for Nuclear (NSAN) Skills Symposium on 20 March.

The YGN plays a crucial role in fostering talent across the industry, providing early-career professionals with the networks, knowledge, and opportunities to grow.

Gwen Parry-Jones, GBN CEO said

“Investing in the next generation of nuclear professionals is critical to delivering the UK’s ambitious nuclear future. Partnering with the Nuclear Institute’s Young Generation Network allows GBN to support and inspire early-career professionals, ensuring they have the skills, opportunities, and networks to thrive. We are proud to collaborate with the YGN and look forward to working together to strengthen the future workforce of our growing sector.”

Alys Gardner, Head of Skills and Development Strategy at GBN and YGN Chair 2016, said

“This partnership comes at a perfectly timed moment for GBN, as we look forward to welcoming our first cohort of Nuclear Graduates in September 2025. The YGN’s work to support and inspire early-career professionals aligns with our own mission to develop the next generation and beyond. We look forward to working together to provide meaningful opportunities for young professionals to thrive in our growing sector.”

Saralyn Thomas, Skills Lead at GBN and YGN Chair 2022, said

“As GBN works to establish itself as a leading employer in the sector, we are excited to partner with YGN and benefit from their early careers expertise. YGN has provided me so many opportunities over my career and I would not be in my current role without it. I look forward to giving our GBN early careers professionals access to some incredible and wide-ranging opportunities as a result of this partnership.”

Craig Pilkington, YGN Chair 2025 and Senior Engineer at Assystem, said

“The YGN is thrilled to begin its partnership with Great British Nuclear. The YGN and GBN share a common mission and values, and this collaboration presents exciting opportunities—not only for both organisations but also for the early-career professionals shaping the future of the UK nuclear industry.

With the YGN recently launching our new five-year strategy, this is an exciting time to partner with GBN. Together, we will strengthen our dynamic and diverse network while GBN continues to expand and play an influential role within the sector, and we can’t wait to get started.”

Through this partnership, GBN and the YGN will collaborate to maximise learning opportunities, encourage career development, and ensure that young professionals have a strong voice in the industry. Opportunities for collaboration include setting up a Young People’s Network at GBN and supporting the development of our early careers schemes including support on connecting with the next generation looking to join the sector, engaging with schools to inspire the next generation and championing the YGN throughout the sector and supply chain. Together, we will build the workforce needed to deliver the UK’s new nuclear future.
