  • Latest episode of Drive to Survive series enraged Oscar Piastri fans

Global streaming service Netflix has been accused of selective editing after the latest episode of the Drive to Survive series was released on Friday.

Episode three focused on McLaren’s difficult juggling act of trying to stop the team from self-destructing as Aussie Oscar Piastri and McLaren teammate Lando Norris fought tooth and nail for the Drivers’ Championship last year.

McLaren boss Zak Brown – who has been accused by some supporters of openly favouring Norris – does his best to appear neutral.

Eyebrows were raised by many fans when Piastri forfeited a 34-point championship lead to finish the season 16 points adrift in third spot behind Norris and Red Bull’s Max Verstappen.

But Piastri supporters hoping to see the Aussie’s side of the story were left disappointed, with episode three ignoring any speculation the Melbourne-born driver was an afterthought at McLaren.

In fact, the latest episode casts Norris as the victim after he qualified sixth at the Bahrain Grand Prix in April.

‘I feel like I’ve just never driven an F1 car before. I’m struggling a lot, I don’t know why,’ a dejected Norris told media at the time.

‘I need to try and find some answers.’

The episode then displays Norris’ determination as he dug deep and ultimately went on to win the championship.

One particular clip from Bahrain is almost certain to be a major talking point.

Brown can be heard stating: ‘I think Oscar is looking strong. I’m not allowed to put money on it, but if I did, I’d have it on Oscar.’

But the McLaren boss looked anything but neutral when wildly celebrating Norris snaring pole position at the Monaco Grand Prix – and then Piastri was visibly frustrated when ordered by a race engineer to let Norris through during the Italian Grand Prix.

Additionally, Norris made contact with Piastri at the start of the Singapore Grand Prix – but the British driver escaped sanction.

And when McLaren had some ‘difficult conversations’ with Piastri, Netflix’s cameras were not given access to the room.

The 2026 F1 season begins at Albert Park in Melbourne for the staging of the Australian Grand Prix on March 8.
