Principles for cyber incident communications
The National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC) has published new guidance on effective communications in a cyber incident to support organisations of any size to manage their communications strategy before, during and after the cyber incident.
The guidance outlines three core principles to follow
- Prepare your communications strategy in advance.
- Communicate clearly with different parties, and tailor messaging where necessary.
- Manage the aftermath in the medium and long term.
Effective communication is vital for maintaining trust with staff, stakeholders, and the public during a cyber crisis. This guidance helps organisations manage both internal and external communications during an incident, ensuring effective responses that protect reputation and ongoing trust.
