The NBA has suspended Sacramento Kings star Dennis Schroder after he ‘attempted to strike’ Luka Doncic after his team’s loss to the LA Lakers last month.

The Kings lost 125-101 to the Lakers at Crypto.com Arena on December 28, but the battle appeared to continue off court.

In a statement released on Saturday night, the NBA confirmed it has suspended Schroder for three games without pay for ‘confronting and attempting to strike another player’.

The player in question was not named in the NBA’s statement, but insider Chris Haynes reported that it was Doncic that Schroder sought out ‘in a hallway’.

The NBA revealed the incident occurred approximately 40 minutes after the end of the game in LA three days after Christmas.

Schroder will begin his suspension when the Kings host the Houston Rockets at Golden 1 Center on Sunday, and he will be eligible to return on January 16.

Interestingly, his ban will also include a game against Doncic and the Lakers on Monday, eliminating any risk of further aggravation on court between the players.

Schroder, 32, was a first-round pick in 2013, being selected No 17 overall by the Atlanta Hawks.

He has since played for the Thunder, Lakers, Celtics, Rockets, Raptors, Nets, Warriors and Pistons, bouncing around the league before landing in Sacramento in a sign-and-trade deal last July.

The journeyman has played for 10 teams in 12 seasons, playing 842 regular season games in his career to date.
